This map ranks street segments by Seattle Department of Transportation's SLOPE_PCT. A 20% grade means 20 feet of rise per 100 horizontal feet, not 20 degrees.

Eligible records are marked INSVC, have a street classification, and are not alleys. Missing slopes are excluded. Minimum length uses SDOT's SEGLENGTH in feet. One segment per street retains the steepest eligible segment for each street name.

Grades are source records, not independently verified measurements. Short segments can have extreme values. Lines follow the ground; bridges may appear at terrain height. The elevation profile samples Esri World Elevation independently of recorded grade and is not a roadway survey. The scene has no vertical exaggeration. Numbered circles match the current ranking and hide at block scale, where A/B labels mark the profile endpoints. When terrain data is available, A is the lower endpoint, B the higher, and the camera looks from the lower side. This is terrain direction, not permitted traffic direction. Similar elevations or disconnected geometry use a neutral view.
